Ending on a good note: live music venues.

Concerts are one of our favorite parts of summer. While the days are warmer and longer and our schedules are a little more flexible, good vibes surround these musical performances. This is a tough part of the season to let go of, but there are still a few opportunities to take advantage of these outdoor shows.

Virginia Beer Company hold weekly concerts on Friday and Sunday. The Friday Night Concert Series and Acoustic Sundays feature live music in the beer garden, and the best part is, it’s FREE! Enjoy summer music, 16 draft beers and local food truck pairing bites. This is the perfect place to start and end your weekend!

The Summer Breeze Concert Series takes place every Wednesday on the lawn of the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg. Enjoy a variety of bands with genres including jazz, blues, beach, and party and dance music! These concerts will take place through September 11, so don’t miss out on this weekday treasure!

For the remainder of August, enjoy free outdoor concerts by the river every Thursday! The Sounds of Summer extended their series for a few more weeks! From 7:00 - 9:30 PM, bring your cooler and lawn chairs and kick back to some amazing tunes. This series features some of the area’s most-talented performers playing all of the beach, motown, disco, funk, R&B and pop favorites!

Educational activities we think you’ll dig

Hands on the Past is an interactive archaeology-based event in Historic Jamestowne. Families become familiar with the moment of discovery and learn the process for examining artifacts found at the site. The best part about this program is that it’s full of hands-on activities, like pottery mending and screening for artifacts. Filter through excavated material for traces of the 17th century and help the archaeology team discover new pieces from the past! This event will continue until September 2 from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

For more archaeology fun, visit Jamestown’s Rediscovery for the Curator’s Artifact Tour! This tour includes a closer look at the archaeology laboratory and collection facility. Learn each step of the process, from categorizing and analyzing to research and storage of artifacts. You’ll even have a chance to see a brief overview of the 2 million artifacts and discoveries since digging began in 1994! This program is 90 minutes long and will continue through October.
